A Continuing Trend

How come my favorite characters always die?

Just to name a few:

Series: Pirates of the Carribien
Character: James Norrington
Cause of Death: Impaled by crazed star fish pirate.
Necessity: Zero

Series: Trigun (1)/ Trigun Maximum(2)
Character: Nicolas D Wolfwood
Cause of Death: 1) Killed by his teacher after sparing his life despite killing indiscriminately kind of being his thing. 2) Over exerting himself while fighting his master, his rival, AND 3 ninjas simultaniusly. He actually manages to win too before dropping dead.
Badassness of death: 1) Nonexistent. Over the top and melodramatic, though I really liked it when I was 13 and seeing it for the first time.
2) Holy shit yes.

Series: Neon Genesis Evangelion
Character: Ryoji Kaji
Cause of Death: Shot for treachery by an unseen gunman.
Did he get laid before dying: Absolutely.

Series: Naruto
Character: Jiraya
Cause of Death: Skewered numerous times, then punched into a lake where he drifted to the bottom.
Did he get laid before dying: Probably not

Series: Lord of the Rings
Character: Boromir
Cause of Death: Impaled by many many arrows
Was he Sean Bean: Hell yeah!

Series: Harry Potter
Character(s): Cedric Diggory, Sirius Black, Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape
Cause(s) of Death: Killing Cursed, Stunned into a portal of death, Killed Cursed off a 20 story tower, Eaten by a snake.
Was I the Only Cedric Diggory Fan Prior to His Death: Probably

Series: Dragonball Z
Character: Piccolo
Cause of Death: First he got exploded by a Stone Cold Steve Austin alien look-a-like. Then he got better. Several years later he was blown up along with the rest of planet earth.
Was he Sean Bean: No.

Series: Resident Evil (movies)
Character: Carlos Oliviera
Cause of Death: Suicidally driving a truck into a field full of zombies, then exploding it.
Were These Movies Terrible: Yes. I really liked Carlos in the game (re 3) too, so I hope they don't take this movie as an idea for the future.

Series: Star Wars
Character: Obi Won Kenobi
Cause of Death: Darth Vader'd
Was this acceptable: After seeing the prequels. No. No it wasn't.

Series: South Park
Character: Chef
Cause of Death: Shot, impaled, disemboweled, and partially eaten
Am I stretching it: Yes


Moral of the story: If I like a character, they are going to die. Leon Kennedy and Hateke Kakashi better watch out because they are my only favorite characters left.
